About Voxys

Voxys is a private Massachusetts-based medical device and healthcare data analytics technology company founded in 2002, based on work conducted initially at the M.I.T. Media Lab. Voxys is currently engaged in early stage research & development (R&D), building a suite of medical products for the diagnosis and maintenance of thyroid-related conditions, with future applications in the pharmaceutical clinical trial and predictive healthcare markets.

Management Team

Michael Sung, Co-Founder, President & Chief Technology Officer
Michael Sung is finishing up his Ph.D. with the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He currently works for the Human Design and Wearables Group at the MIT Media Lab, with a research focus in developing future biometric systems and other wearable technologies. Prior to that, Michael worked at the MIT Laboratory of Computer Science investigating advanced VLSI architectures for low-power high-performance computing. He has 8+ years experience in the areas of computer architecture, VLSI, and computer systems design. Michael also has a great deal of industrial experience, primarily from working in the microprocessor, high-end server, and advanced media divisions at SGI Inc. serving various performance simulation and ASIC design/verification engineering roles. Michael currently holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.

Barnas Monteith, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Barnas founded a web application development company which merged with part of Cable & Wireless' professional service group in the US; and managed SourceCode.com, a web portal for software developers which achieved over 3 Million regular users at its peak. Barnas is also a published researcher and lecturer, having worked in the field of bioinformatic data modeling as a Research Associate at Tufts and Harvard University. He also serves as Executive Committee Chair of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts State Science & Engineering Fair. Barnas graduated from Tufts University with dual B.S. degrees.

Dow-Chung Chi, Co-Founder, Vice President of Business Development
Dow was most recently Director of Business Development at Asterand, a clinical genomics company, responsible for establishing collaborations with biopharmaceutical companies and academic institutions. Previously, he was an Associate at Oxford Bioscience Partners, a leading life science venture capital firm, where he was responsible for over $100 million in committed equity financing for 11 private companies. Previously, he was an equity research analyst at Goldman, Sachs & Co., covering the biotechnology industry, where he was involved in raising over $10 billion in financing for biotechnology companies, including three initial public offerings. He has scientific research experience from the Whitehead/MIT Center for Genome Research, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Human Genome Research Institute. Mr. Chi received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from MIT.

Felicia Hu, Co-Founder, Vice President of Product Development
Felicia is the most recent addition to the Voxys team, currently enrolled in MIT Sloan School, for the Class of 2004 MBA in Technology program. Felicia has most recently worked as Product Developer for Oracle Corporation, managing the development of Oracle's Financial Suite. Felicia specializes in object oriented software development with large, complex data warehouses, particularly in Java. She has also been highly active in Asian education programs, including MIT-CETI, the China Educational Technology Initative. Felicia received a B.S. from MIT.


Board of Advisors

Alex "Sandy" Pentland, Ph.D., Director/Founder, MIT Media Lab Asia
Alex "Sandy" Pentland heads the Media Lab's Human Design research group, and is the founding director of Media Lab Asia. His work encompasses areas such as wearable computing, human-machine interfaces, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, and machine and human vision. He is a co-founder and principal investigator for the Media Laboratory's Digital Nations consortium, of the award-winning LINCOS project, and of the Center for Future Health. Pentland has published more than 200 scientific articles, and is one of the most-cited computer scientists in the world. He is a founder of the IEEE Computer Society's Wearable Computer task force, and served as general chair of the IEEE International Symposium on Wearable Computing. Newsweek magazine named him one of 100 people most likely to shape the next century. Pentland did his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan and received his PhD from MIT.

Seth Taylor, Founder and Vice President, Molecularware
Seth combines over ten years of research in molecular biology with management training and business development experience. Seth is the founder and current VP of business development for Molecularware Inc., a bioinformatics company focused on HTS Previously, Seth was business development manager for genomics products at Packard Instrument Company, the leading instrument vendor for HTS applications. While at Packard, Seth became acquainted with the product and business strategies of many of the companies building new platforms for HTS, genomics and proteomics. He holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University and a S.M. in Management of Technology from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Beth Marcus, President, Marcus Enterprises, Ltd.
Beth is founder and President of Marcus Enterprises, Ltd.(MELtd), a strategic, technology and business consulting firm specializing in early stage companies. Since founding MELtd she has been involved as a founder in two consumer products companies and as an advisor in several others across market sectors. Three of these ventures have been acquired by public companies. Prior to MELtd, Dr. Marcus was Founder, Chairman of the Board and CTO of EXOS, Inc, a pioneer of haptic user interfaces, which was acquired by Microsoft in 1996. She is a member of the MIT Enterprise Forum Advisory Board of Directors. Dr. Marcus has a Ph.D. in Biomechanics from the Imperial College in London, England, with her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

Joseph Milando, CEO, ProservUS, Former Director Professional Services, Exodus
Prior to joining Exodus Communications Inc. where Joe manages a sales group producing over $40M in professional services sales annually, Mr. Milando successfully led his company and multiple business units into new markets. In 1994 he became the founder and CEO of Facilities Solutions, an IT infrastructure outsourcing company that served the information needs of Fortune 50 companies. His company created a new market niche and commanded the largest data portfolio in the industry detailing over 30 million SF of space distributed over 19 countries. Mr. Milando has been a member of four other advisory boards. He has been an active member of the Young Entrepreneur Organization, Entrepreneurs Dinner and other entrepreneurial groups. Mr. Milando has been recognized with many technical, sales and customer service awards at companies including EDS, McDonnell Douglas, CalComp, Summit Computer Systems, and John Shoener Zulik Architects including the President's Award, Distinguished Salesperson Award, Salesman of the Year, Masters Club, Golden Eagle Sales Circle and others. He has presented technical seminars at numerous national and regional conferences. He has had articles published and is a contributing author in a soon to be published book from McGraw Hill. Joe holds degrees in Architecture and Political Science from Drew University.
